Elke Van Hoof is a clinical psychologist and professor in Health and medical psychology, and first-line psychology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her expertise includes de psychophysiology of stress and health and the relationship between self-reported symptoms, physiological dysfunction and illness. She led the Belgian cancer center from 2009 to 2013 and put the Belgian cancer policy on the map within Europe. Elke was a member of the Psychology Committee from 2012 to 2020. She is at the moment still involved with the formatting of a psychological electronic file. In addition, she is also currently a member of the Superior Health council as expert and she is a member of the kenniscentrum Arbeidsongeschiktheid of RIZIV/INAMI. She is the chairwoman for the working group about the psychological impact of COVID-19 within the Superior Health council and was a member of the GEES. Elke Van Hoof advises the Flemish minister of public health on the execution of the COVID-19 action plan “Zorgen voor morgen”. Elke does research about resilience when confronted with difficult situations like cancer, burnout but also heart and vascular diseases, MS and/or rare diseases. She looks at the impact on resilience and recovery capacity and also uses AI solutions to do ana profiling. Profiling is used to get to recommendations for tailored psychological care. Beside Elke’s career, she is also a best-selling author and a frequently asked speaker on topics about stress, burnout and return to work; her books were translated in French and English.
